Toy Trains At The Library

We can’t promise you that this won’t change, but we are hoping to open Tuesday, May 26. The date still depends on the local Covid numbers. Until then, please continue to call or email us with your book, DVD and CD requests. We’ll have them in the parking lot for you at noon and 5 p.m. You’ll recognize us. We’re the ones in masks and gloves.

This week several friends and coworkers gave me a list of what they’re reading or what they’ve read recently and really enjoyed.

Animal-lover Lilly stuck a book in my face and said, “You’ve got to read this.” It has a picture of a dog on the front, so I told her, “No, the dog will die.” She promised me that the dog does NOT die and that the book is hilarious and heartfelt. The title is The St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets by Annie England Noblin and we have it in the library.

My readaholic friend, Mary Gail, said that some of her recent favorites include The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, Island of Sea Women by Lisa See and American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Her goal is 100 books this year and she’s already at 49, way ahead of schedule! These books are also available in the library.

Our sweet Natalie has a taste for the macabre murder mystery. She says that anything and everything by Ruth Ware is great. Lately she really enjoyed Perfect Little Children by Sophie Hannah. And yes, they are in the library.

Our “listening” librarian sits in the car and “reads.” Her latest favorites include The Escape Room by Megan Goldin and When You See Me by Lisa Gardiner. She’ll listen to any of the books by James Patterson and David Baldacci.

Jeanette is all over the place with what she reads. Her latest favorite is The Bear by Andrew Krivac. She said it reads like a Native American folktale and is beautifully written. She will also bury herself in the Anna Pigeon books by Nevada Barr and you have to fight her for anything by CJ Box.

Kim swears that she just reads “about books”, but I know she thinks Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache books are some of the best mysteries available. We have them all.

I keep dreaming of finding the time to just put my feet up and read. That will happen as soon as the live-in maid and chef arrive. Until then, stay safe, take care of each other and read a great book!
